The North DuPage Special Education Cooperative

The North DuPage Special Education Cooperative (NDSEC) recently hosted State Representative Christine Winger (R-Bloomingdale). The NDSEC is a cooperative agreement of school districts in DuPage County, and provides services to nearly 15,000 students with special needs.

The NDSEC assists its nine member districts with special education related services, several of which are located within Rep. Winger’s legislative district. As a local leader, Winger felt it was important to see these educational services available to constituents in her district, and learn more about the services the NDSEC offers.

Dr. Lea Anne Frost, director of the NDSEC, gave Representative Winger a tour of the facilities, including Lincoln Academy, a school in Roselle where Winger got to see firsthand the services provided to the students.

This tour was especially important to Rep. Winger, who previously taught at an alternative school, and has experience working with students with special needs. Winger said that, “Being able to witness an organization that gives students the skills they need to succeed, is extremely encouraging. The Cooperative works to give equal education opportunities to all students, not matter their physical, intellectual, or emotional needs—and this is a vital service to the community in order to improve the quality of life for students with special needs.”
